150 years ago a small group of 31 Dwarves headed out on their own. They were a feisty group of Dwarves with their hearts set on fortune. These men marched across the undeveloped countryside looking for the best place to find their fortune. They traveled for a long time across the Lockhart swamps and beyond the Aonach Mountains. They spent much of their time fending off monsters of all types as they worked to discover their new claim.
Once beyond the Aonach Mountains the group of Dwarves found an area they felt perfect. Woodlands would help defend them and a small lake would help to feed them. With these provisions they began their efforts in mining the edge of the Aonach Mountains.
Years passed as they mined the mountains and built their town. Half the group would build the town and the other half would mine all day long. Several houses would hold most of the dwarves. They would build a mess hall that would feed mainly fish and deer. A select few of the hunters would also act as guardsmen for the town. The Dwarves of Midden Forge were a very socialist group. Whatever they did it always went back to the group.
The Dwarves mined the Aonach Mountains for years before they actually found the veins of gold and jewels the town would become famous for. Once the dwarves found the ore veins trouble began. The first load was quickly shipped off to Castle Tumult. The first caravan made it all the way back with little trouble. The King was so happy with the large haul he sent massive jacks and a small regiment of royal soldier back to Midden Forge to help secure it. All shipments after the first would always be accompanied by royal guards and was often a well known target for bandits and monsters. All too often some of the best soldiers were placed on the guard duty of the Midden Forge caravans.
Midden Forge became a very rich town in a very short time. The dwarves kept tight control of their town and to whom and to what was allowed in. The royal soldiers had a barracks built for them on the edge of Midden Forge. The dwarven population bloomed over the next 100 years in Midden Forge.
Life was good for the dwarves of Midden Forge. They had good protection and lots of money. The trade routes were booming. The entire source of their economy rested on the mines and trade to Ba'ath Morgul and to Castle Tumult. The corruption within their society was almost nonexistent due to the socialist society values.
Chapter 2
Monsters brought serious trouble to Midden Forge, for a long time the town flourished and defended itself against all monster threats. There was a wave that was unstoppable, monsters poured from the mountains and into the valley in which Midden Forge sat. The dwarves and the royal guards tried to defend the town for as long as they could. The resistance didn't stand up long to the onslaught and the town was quickly abandoned by all the inhabitants.
Fifty years would pass and Midden Forge would remain controlled by the monsters as they used the town to mine and process the ore. During the time the monsters controlled Midden Forge the dwarves regrouped in Minas Kira to build a small army to retake their town. The dwarves would not be able to make a strike at the monsters until after the uprising for they made a stand in Minas Kira. Their stand in Minas Kira would help further their training.
After the uprising a large Dwarven army marched from Minas Kira to Midden Forge to reclaim their land. The dwarves made it to Midden Forge to be surprised by a sight still talked about, one man, with no name, taking down the entire monster occupation. The story the dwarves tell is that they made it to Midden Forge with their army ready to strike. As they arrived to the edge of town, bodies riddled the ground and a blood trail followed into the town. The dwarves made it to the center of the town and came upon a large burly man with a bald head. He was an amazing fighter with great skill and strength. The army with more than 100 dwarves all stood and watched the man destroying Orcs, Ogres and Automatons with ease. There were a handful of Orcs and Ogres left fighting and things were going in the favor of the man with the bald head until one of the orcs caught a lucky blow. The shot hit the man clean in the head gashing his forehead open dropping him instantly. The dwarves were shocked by this and charged to save the man. The remaining monsters recognized their defeat and bolted from the town taking the man with them. Some dwarven scouts followed the monsters for days as they dragged the half dead man by his feet while his head bounced on every rock. The scouts reported that the man was dragged into the Deep Woods, a place to which they would not follow.
With the help from soldiers in Recoome to help defend Midden Forge the dwarves got right back to business mining the precious ores from the Aonach mountains. They also used facilities the monsters built to process the ore. With the death of the king no more shipments are being made to Tumult. Midden Forge now concentrates on trading the ore to Recoome and Ba'ath Morgul for protection. Midden Forge is a place welcoming to dwarves from all over Aiteagen but not other races. Midden Forge has lodging and a pub welcome to outsiders on the edge of town for any passer bys. Midden Forge is considered a very rich town for as little as it has to show for it. The best dwarven built weapons and armor come from Midden Forge.
