When the kingdom fell New Hope became a town for people to fall back to. Unfortunately the refugees from Tumult were not well received, they were in fact rejected. New Hope was and is a town of the elite society. Those who did not know anyone living in New Hope and were from another city were viewed as vagabonds and outsiders.

When the skies turned black and the dead erupted from the void the word spread like wild fire. The Kings death was welcomed gloriously by the citizens of New Hope. Their high taxes from their success were finally relieved. The local merchants, guild masters and politicians wasted no time getting things in order in new Hope.

The new formed government of New Hope took shape in less than a day. After the leaders were set they started buying all the local talent in arms. Royal Guards stationed in New Hope were easily bought and used to form one of the best armies in the lands. In the matter of one week New Hope amassed an army of amazing size to defend their beautiful rich society and city. The surge of Undead was no match for the arms at the gates and walls of New Hope.

Two weeks after the death of the king and the fall of the empire new Hope started taking even greater measure to defend their rich society and city. Some of the greatest masons were contracted to extend the walls higher and thicker. With the money that was available New Hope formed walls 40 feet high and ten feet thick surrounding the entire city in a matter of months. The crews brought in were some of the burliest half-ogres and best dwarven engineers. Many people profited greatly from the fortification of New Hope.

The downfall to such a great fortification came that to passer bys, merchants and refugees. The guards that watch the gates cannot be bribed for entry to the city. The tariffs for the merchants to enter the city so incredibly high it leaves for only the best to enter. Those who come to the gates in desperate need of help, even if they are dying, are turned away if they do not have the jacks to enter. There is no sympathy from the New Hope guard to those beyond their gates.

New Hope has become a grand safe haven to the rich and powerful. Their army is a major influence in the lands but not an outstanding threat. Only the finest product is traded in and out of New Hope and has no specific bearing on their economy. For the thieves of Aitaegen, the greatest prize and bragging rights goes to those who can scale the walls of New Hope and make it out alive with some sort of stolen prize. Few have tried and only one has succeeded, that's why she is regarded as the greatest thief in the lands.
